I was explaining recently to a bride and groom who where asking about Rock My Reception playing live music during their ceremony. They asked if we only got asked to play The ‘Bridal Chorus’ for the entrance of the bride (you know….’Here comes the bride’) and the ‘Wedding March’ whilst walking back up the aisle. Much to their surprise I told them that although we have played versions of them in the past, it a very rarely requested at modern day weddings. In fact there seems to no limitation or boundaries now for ceremony music- highlighting the growing trend in wedding couples who really want to put their own stamp on the day.
Looking back Rock My Reception really have had some unusual requests as well…brides making their entrance to T.V theme tunes…. ‘Only Fools And Horses’ springs to mind! Also rare old folk songs, only known locally in certain places- like adaptations of ‘Old Johnny Bucker’, popular in some small market towns in South Yorkshire and apparently sung by the coal minors in the region.
Been asked to play such a varying degree of songs certainly enriches your back catalogue and capacity to learning unusual tracks.
It prompted me to go back and take a look at every single request Rock My Reception have been asked to play during wedding ceremonies- After trawling through hundreds of weddings we have compiled a poll of Rock My Receptions most requested!
Check out the Infographic below!….and amazingly neither Wagner’s ‘Bridal Chorus’ or Mendelssohn’s ‘Wedding March’ are nowhere to be seen!
