TWIA destination

Well, it’s November 2016 and as winter flooding and severe gales sweep across Britain, we are showing our true Yorkshire grit and resilience by joining the prestigious Wedding Industry Awards for a third year in a row.

Providing the ceremony music for TWIA has always been a joyous event for us-creative license used to comedic effect when choosing songs to, sometimes tenuously, associate with a category: “Jumping Jack Flash” for best Wedding Photographer and “Abracadabra” for best Wedding Entertainment (non-musical) being case in points! However, the musical aspect of the awards is only one element of our enjoyment in being involved with TWIA.

Over the last 3 weeks TWIA’s regional events have seen around 2000 guests walk through their doors with countless suppliers hoping to achieve that highly coveted badge of excellence in their category. As guests mingle before and after the ceremony, being served and array of cocktails by the boys from Beetlejuice and delicious canapés served by the Jackaranda catering team, this gives everyone ample opportunity to use the event to their full advantage-regardless of whether they leave with an award or not-the opportunity to network.

Rock My Reception have been lucky enough to win the best newcomer award of 2014. Since then we have attended the following events for purposes of networking and the inspiration we always get from working with the TWIA team. In recent years we have learned from other suppliers such important factors as business strategies, pricing and more recently-how to go about booking a destination wedding.

After playing over 75 weddings on home turf in 2015, not wanting to let the grass grow under our feet, we decided a new challenge was in order and that we’d look at trying to book a wedding overseas. By September 2016 we had performed a destination wedding in Dubrovnik, Croatia for the wedding of Natasha and Brett Ince.

The opportunity for a wedding band to perform at an overseas wedding is rare. Even if a band do get asked it can still be a logistical nightmare for some band members not being able to take time away from family or other commitments. Luckily for Rock My Reception we are always ready to seize upon the opportunity to perform anywhere on the planet and since our fantastic Dubrovnik experience the doors now seem to be opening wide with more and more enquiries to provide the soundtrack to someone’s wedding in the sun.

Thanks to the kind words shared not only by Natasha, Brett and their guests in Dubrovnik, but also the staff at The Grand Villa Argentina where we had the pleasure of playing the afternoon drinks reception, requests to play in other destination weddings are coming in thick and fast. Already for September 2018 we have a wedding booked for Cyprus and thanks to our involvement with TWIA, June 2018 will see us don our sun hats and glasses for our destination wedding in Spain to play for one of TWIA’s Best Events Team winners. After performing at a celebratory aftershow party and providing everyone with their chosen requests it was decided that Rock My Reception would be the perfect choice to accompany the wedding party on their celebrations in Marbella.

Yet again with thanks to our own accessibility and to the networking opportunities TWIA provides us with foreign destination weddings in the sun are now a commonplace in Rock My Reception’s diary for 2018.
